Carpet installation cost in Snohomish is set by four things: the fiber, the pad under it, how your rooms lay out against a 12 ft roll, and what has to come out first. Each of those is a different job with a different price, and any contractor who gives you a single number before seeing the house is guessing. Here is what actually goes into the quote.
The four things that set the price
1. Fiber and construction
Polyester is the budget fiber, nylon and triexta the durable ones, wool the premium. Within each fiber, face weight and twist level move the price again. A dense, high-twist nylon can cost more than double a light polyester of the same color.
2. The pad
Pad is priced separately and usually makes up a meaningful slice of the bill. Thicker is not better. Density is what protects the carpet, and a good 8 lb rebond pad often adds years to a mid-grade carpet's life.
3. Layout and waste
Carpet comes on 12 ft rolls. A 13 ft wide room needs a seam and a second cut, and a long hallway can waste 20 percent of a roll. Snohomish farmhouses with odd additions tend to waste more than a square 1990s rambler.
4. Tear-out and prep
Pulling old carpet, pad and staples is routine. Old glued-down carpet, pet-soaked subfloor that needs sealing, or a squeaky floor over a crawlspace that needs screwing down all add labor, and all are quoted after we look.

Pad: where the hidden money is
- Cheap pad kills good carpet. A 5 lb or 6 lb pad under a heavy nylon lets the backing flex, which is what breaks fibers loose. Most low quotes get low by dropping the pad grade.
- Thickness is not quality. 7/16 in at 8 lb density outperforms 1/2 in at 6 lb. Ask for the density in pounds per cubic foot, not just the thickness.
- Moisture barrier pad over crawlspaces. Many Snohomish homes sit over a vented crawlspace. A pad with a film barrier keeps ground moisture and pet accidents from soaking into the subfloor.
- Pet-specific pad. Odor-blocking pads cost more but let you clean an accident out of the carpet instead of the plywood beneath it.
- Firmer pad on stairs. Soft, thick pad on stairs lets the carpet flex and wear at the nosing. We spec a denser, thinner pad on treads.

- Step 1 · MeasureEvery room, closet and hallway is measured to the inch, including the tuck under baseboards and doorways.
- Step 2 · Seam planWe lay the rooms out against a 12 ft roll to place seams under furniture or away from windows, where light would show them.
- Step 3 · Waste factorSimple rectangular rooms waste about 10 percent. Halls, stairs and odd angles push it to 15 to 20 percent. You pay for the roll, not the room.
- Step 4 · Stairs counted per treadStraight, pie-shaped and open-sided stairs are counted and priced separately because each is hand-fitted.
- Step 5 · Firm written priceCarpet, pad, tear-out, disposal and stairs on separate lines. The number you sign is the number you pay.

The Snohomish dog rule: If your dogs come in from a wet field twice a day, put the money in the fiber and pad, not the pile height. A dense triexta or solution-dyed nylon on an 8 lb moisture-barrier pad will outlast a plush polyester twice over. How to get a firm number, not a range
- Get measured in the house. Room sizes off a listing or a tape you ran yourself do not account for seams and waste. Our estimate is free and we come to you, about 25 minutes from the Lynnwood showroom.
- Ask for carpet, pad and labor on separate lines. That is how you compare two quotes and spot the one that saved money on the pad.
