Compare suitable LVP and floor-rated tile for spaces exposed to wet shoes or spills. Check wet-area approval, surface traction and cleaning instructions. Waterproof planks do not waterproof the subfloor, and shower floors require a separate product and installation review.
Start with moisture conditions and the slab’s flatness. Discuss LVP or engineered wood only when the selected product permits below-grade installation and its moisture requirements can be met. Address moisture problems before choosing a new covering.
Compare carpet for a soft feel with hardwood, laminate or LVP for a hard-surface option. Look at samples beside your furniture. For busy hallways, stairs and home offices, also discuss traffic, stair details, chair casters and maintenance.

Build your flooring budget
The consultation is free. Your project budget combines the selected flooring, ordering allowance for cuts, installation labor and any preparation or finishing work. Material prices depend on the specific product; ask to compare complete installed totals for your shortlisted samples.
Published installation labor starts at $2.50 per sq. ft. for LVP or laminate and $3.25 per sq. ft. for solid or engineered hardwood, with a 500-square-foot minimum. These starting rates do not include the flooring material or every project extra.
For example, 500 square feet at $2.50 starts at $1,250 for installation labor before materials, preparation and other applicable charges. Carpet and tile are quoted for the selected product and project.

Look beyond color
Ask to see the specification sheet for each sample. Ratings describe different properties, so a single number cannot tell you how many years a floor will last.
Janka hardness helps compare resistance to denting in solid wood species. It is not a scratch-proof rating; the finish and construction also affect performance. Engineered wood needs a separate review of its construction and usable wood layer.
Compare the wear layer, surface coating, approved room use and warranty exclusions together. Overall plank thickness alone does not describe surface durability.
For glazed tile, review the abrasion or PEI rating where provided. Check floor-use approval and wet-area suitability separately; a wear rating does not establish slip resistance.

If low emissions or responsible sourcing matter to you, mention them when booking. Ask for documentation for the exact product, including any adhesive and underlayment.
Check the current certificate for the specific product. These labels cover different attributes and do not mean zero emissions. Follow product instructions for ventilation and installation.

There is no single lifespan for every hardwood, LVP, laminate, carpet or tile product. Material quality, installation, traffic, moisture and care all affect service life. Compare the selected product’s warranty coverage and exclusions, maintenance needs and repair options. A warranty term is not a prediction of when the floor will need replacement.
Use the same product, measured rooms and installation scope for each quote. Compare materials, ordering quantities, labor, removal, preparation, trim, stairs and applicable taxes. Ask which items are excluded and whether the price is an estimate or a fixed quote. A lower per-square-foot labor rate does not necessarily mean a lower completed project cost.
