Meet Your LVP Installation Team

Wills Flooring is family-owned, started in Lynnwood in 2013, and serves homeowners from its Everett showroom.

For a Shoreline carpet replacement, we want the installation details to be as clear as the color choice. Our team can discuss what comes out, which floors stay, how the new height affects trim, and what needs inspection once the carpet is removed.

Carpet Replacement Planned for Your Shoreline Address

Shoreline became a city in 1995 and supports fourteen neighborhood associations. From Richmond Beach to North City, the right flooring scope still depends on the individual home. A carpet-to-LVP update calls for a close look at what the carpet covers and how a new hard surface will meet surrounding rooms and trim.

Before choosing a final plank, identify the carpeted rooms, any retained tile or hardwood, and the doors that open across the new floor. We can discuss the likely height changes and establish which preparation questions must wait until the old covering is removed.

Craftsmanship from the ground up

From Carpet and Cushion to a Prepared LVP Base

Replacing carpet involves more than exchanging surfaces. Cushion, tack strips, fasteners, and old transitions must be addressed, then the substrate evaluated for a hard flooring system. We review the removal and finishing work as part of one installation plan.

Understand the Existing Layers

Identify carpet, cushion, fasteners, and any underlying layers before defining removal work and the new flooring assembly.

Check Floor Heights

Compare the planned LVP height with retained floors, doors, and trim to choose suitable connections before installation.

Assess the Exposed Base

Review flatness, damage, and support once the carpet is removed, with additional preparation approved before it proceeds.

Plan the Hard-Surface Finish

Include doorway profiles, baseboard decisions, closet edges, and appropriate furniture protection in the conversation about the finished room.

Clear scope

What Your LVP Installation in Shoreline Can Include

Your estimate should identify the carpet removal boundaries and the preparation assumed beneath them. Include closets, stairs if requested, disposal, trim, and connections to retained floors. Separating these tasks helps you distinguish a complete carpet-to-LVP installation scope from a price for plank installation alone.

  • Measure carpeted rooms and closets
  • Record retained-floor heights
  • Scope carpet and cushion removal
  • Remove tack strips and fasteners as appropriate
  • Review the exposed substrate
  • Approve required repairs or preparation
  • Confirm compatible flooring assembly
  • Check door and trim clearances
  • Install selected vinyl plank
  • Fit agreed doorway transitions
  • Complete included baseboard work
  • Review cleaning and furniture protection

Your written estimate will show which of these tasks are included for your home.

A better foundation

What the Carpet May Conceal Matters to LVP

Carpet and cushion can soften the feel of small irregularities that matter to a rigid plank floor. Once removed, the base needs inspection for flatness, secure support, surface damage, and moisture suitability. The selected manufacturer's tolerances guide the preparation decision.

A rigid core does not eliminate preparation, and a thick plank should not be used to bridge an unsuitable surface. We discuss approved correction methods and the resulting floor height together so substrate work supports both the product and its doorway connections.

The right fit

What Changes When You Replace Carpet With LVP?

A Different Cleaning Routine

Loose debris can be swept or vacuumed with suitable equipment, followed by cleaning approved for the selected vinyl finish.

A Clearer Room Connection

A planned plank layout can visually connect previously carpeted rooms with nearby living spaces.

More Design Control

Samples let you choose grain, tone, and texture against the existing finishes instead of choosing from a small screen.

A Chance to Inspect the Base

Removal creates an opportunity to identify accessible substrate issues and agree on correction before the new floor covers them.

Budget with clarity

Estimating Carpet Removal and LVP Installation in Shoreline

The cost depends on the carpeted area, material selection, substrate preparation, and the finishing needed after the height changes. Closets, multiple doorways, furniture movement, and retained floors can add distinct tasks even when two projects have similar total square footage.

Ask the estimate to separate carpet and cushion removal, disposal, preparation, plank installation, and trim. Where the base is hidden, confirm what is assumed and how an adjustment would be approved. A written scope helps you compare the same finished result across different proposals.

Common questions

Vinyl Plank Installation FAQs for Shoreline

Is removing carpet enough preparation for vinyl plank?

No. The cushion, tack strips, and relevant fasteners must be addressed, and the exposed base needs evaluation. LVP requires an appropriate substrate with the selected product's flatness, support, and moisture conditions. Additional repairs or surface preparation may be needed after the carpet comes up.

Will the new LVP be lower than my existing carpet?

It can be, depending on the carpet and cushion compared with the complete LVP assembly. Measure the planned finished heights before deciding on baseboards and transitions. A lower surface may reveal old paint lines or change a doorway connection, which should be included in the finishing plan.

Can we install LVP over the old carpet pad?

No. Carpet cushion is not an appropriate base for a typical vinyl plank installation. It must be removed, and the substrate assessed. Any new underlayment must be specifically compatible with the selected floor; an attached-pad product may prohibit an additional cushioning layer underneath.

What happens if we find hardwood under the carpet?

Pause to assess its condition and your goals before covering or removing it. Retaining or restoring the wood may be an option. If LVP is still preferred, the underlying floor must meet the selected product's overlay requirements, and the additional height and movement conditions need review.

Can the LVP meet carpet that remains in a bedroom?

Yes, with a suitable planned transition for the materials and heights involved. The carpet edge and the LVP's required movement space both need proper treatment. Agree where the boundary sits in the doorway and which profile is included so the change looks intentional.

Will vinyl plank feel or sound the same as carpet?

No. A hard surface has a different underfoot feel and sound response. Product construction, the supporting floor, room furnishings, and rugs all affect the experience. Compare samples and discuss your priorities, but do not expect underlayment to make LVP behave exactly like carpet and cushion.

Do we need new baseboards after removing carpet?

Not necessarily. Existing baseboards may be reusable, depending on their condition and the new floor height. Resetting, replacement, or suitable shoe molding are different options with different appearance and labor implications. Confirm wall touch-ups and painting responsibilities as part of the selected approach.

Can you bring samples to my Richmond Beach or North City home?

Use the booking form to request an in-home consultation and include your full Shoreline address. Share the carpeted room list and photos of adjacent floors if available. Samples can then be compared with the actual interior while measurements and installation details are reviewed.
